Former Gap Band lead vocalist Charlie Wilson will play the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Sept. 7, according to Red Mountain Entertainment, which books the venue. Wilson, with brothers Robert and Ronnie, created the popular dance-funk band. The band's 15 albums included hits such as “You Dropped a Bomb on Me,” “Oops Upside Your Head” and “Outstanding.” As a solo artist, Wilson moved to smooth R&B, scoring No. 1 hits with “Charlie, Last Name Wilson,” “Without You” and “Magic.” He has collaborated with Kanye West, Snoop Dogg and Quincy Jones, among others, been nominated for six Grammys, won a 2009 Soul Train Icon Award and 2005 BMI Icon Award and in 2009 was named Billboard Magazine's No. 1 Adult R&B Artist. The opening act will be R&B singer Chrisette Michelle, who won the 2009 Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance for her song “Be OK.” Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Aug. 3, at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater box office, online at www.ticket master.com, Ticketmaster outlets, or by phone at 800-745-3000.
